A Car Ride with Jacob

Me: We're going to see if Dan and Tara want to have dinner with us.

Jake: Is Tara a girl? (It's been a while since we've seen them, so Jacob needed a refresher on who they are.)

Me: Yes.

Jake: And Dan is a boy?

Me: Yes.

Jake: Do they have kids?

Me: No, not yet.

Jake: Is there a baby in Tara's tummy? (He asks this about all women.)

Me: No.

Jake: Why not?

Me: They're not ready for babies yet.

Jake: How does the baby get in her tummy?

Me: (stalling) Um...

Greg: That's something for when you're a little bit bigger.

Jake: (not missing a beat) And when I'm bigger, I can use pencils!

Greg: Yes, and then when you're a little bigger than that, you can use pens.

Jake: And when I'm even bigger than that, I can use markers!

Markers are pretty special.

Jacob: This is awesome. I like this way. Dad, you're an awesome driver. When I'm big, we'll have to share this car. But maybe I'll get my own car. If I do, I'll drive right behind you. I'll go as fast as you. Or maybe I'll get a race car. I'll drive it fast, as fast as I can. But I won't race when the track is icy. Is "track" the same as "racetrack"? Sometimes I say "'track" for "racetrack."

Questioning Rudolph

Jake: Mom, I don't think Rudolph is real.

Me: What?

Jake: I just don't think there are any real Rudolphs in the world.

Me: Why not?

Jake: Well, he's just too small.

Me: (trying not to laugh) Um, did you see him somewhere?

Jake: Yes -- on the movie. And he's just too small.

Me: Oh.

Jake: So is he real?

Me: Hm. Hey, do you want to help me make dinner?

Cinnamon Roll Party

On Monday night, Jacob said he wanted to have a party. Just a small party, with just Aunt Sarah. And cinnamon rolls.
Behold, the Cinnamon Roll tower!
So tiny, yet so delicious.
And quickly devoured.
Benjamin provided the entertainment for the evening with his hilarious sound effects.

Totally Bragging

Yeah, so I realize it's not THAT impressive for a four-year-old to know all of his letters... but this note made me happy. :)

A Little Knitting and a Lot of Boys

Greg's first knitting attempt.... Next year's Christmas gift is going to involve coasters and pillow cases. It will be awesome.
Thank goodness for the toy room (seen in the background). It's the only way the family room can ever have any clear floor space (not that it happens very often -- I'm just saying it's possible).
Benjamin is a firm believer in the power of water.
Hanging out, looking all red-heady, and showing off his two teeth!

No! I don't want you to take my picture! Stop it, Mom!
Just kidding! Psy-eech!
They're way too young to have the, "Wow, my mom is such a loser" faces on.
Jacob smirking.
Jacob insisted that I tell him how many photos I was going to take. He would only agree to 20. Originally, he was counting each photo. I told him that ruined them, and if they weren't good photos, they didn't count! Ha ha ha ha ha. Mom - 1, Jacob - 0.
Mommy says, "Act happy -- or else!"

And while you're at it, look cute!

Good job, boys! :)

New Year's Eve Countdown

Because we didn't want Jacob to stay up until midnight, but didn't want him to miss out on the New Year's Eve fun, we did our own countdown at 8. Greg brought out Jacob's special clock (we used it when he was about 2 so he could see what time he was allowed to wake up) to count down from 10.
At our early celebration, Jacob and Benjamin got to bang wooden spoons on a pan and pan lid.
Jacob went to bed shortly after this photo. Benjamin stayed up with us to watch silly movies (Lower Learning=AWFUL and The House Bunny=funny). Things wrapped up pretty much right after midnight. As you can probably tell from the basket of laundry on the couch, it was a pretty wild evening. :)

Jacobisms - The Ocean and the Sea

Jacob was singing "Kung Fu Fighting," but saying, "Kum foo fighting."

Me: It's KUNG Fu.

Jake: No, it's KUM FU.

Me: No, it's KUNG.

Jake: But Dad said it was KUM FU.

Me: No, Jake. Dad wouldn't say that. It's KUNG FU.

Jake: (very quietly) I was wrong. (Hangs head)

Me: Jake? What did you say?

Jake: I was wrong. (pause) Mommy, I don't like to be wrong.

----------------------------------------

While driving, we saw a box truck with a picture of the Earth on it.

Jake: Hey, Mom! That's the Earth!

Me: Yep.

Jake: The green is the land and the blue is the ocean.

Me: That's right.

Jake: Ocean and sea are synonyms.

Me: (dumbfounded) Uh, yeah... that's right.

Jake: That means they mean the same thing.
