Mishmash

When Jacob was little, he liked playing a game where he'd hold up a foot and say, "Uh?" Sometimes he'd do a double-footer and say, "Uh uh?" While Benjamin doesn't say the "uh," he definitely enjoys the game. :)Thursday, October 22, 2009
Shadows
The other day we were riding in the car and Jacob noticed the van's shadow on the road.
Jake: Wow, look how big and fat our shadow is!
Me: Yep, it's pretty big right now.
Jake: How come shadows are sometimes big and sometimes small?
Me: It has to do with what time it is. During different times in the day, shadows are bigger or smaller.
Greg: When the sun's low, then the van blocks more of it and the shadow is bigger. If the sun is up high, then it shines down on everything and the shadow is only under the van. Right now the sun is setting, so it's very low and the shadows are really big.
We were driving north.
Jake: Does the sun rise over there? (He pointed east.)
Greg: Yes.
Greg then decided to test him a little.
Greg: So, if the sun is rising, where is the shadow?
Jake: Over there (he pointed west).
I love how his little mind works. I love that he's so curious! I love that he wants detailed answers and he actually understands! It is so much fun to watch him learn.

Footie Pajamas
The other night, Benjamin had a bad night. He was unhappy that Greg closed off the kitchen to mop. He was unhappy that he couldn't be in there. He didn't want to go to bed at bedtime.
Around 10, he just started throwing a fit. Crying uncontrollably, and nothing helped. Rocking, walking, bouncing, warm milk, our bed, the play yard, his crib, etc. I changed his diaper at 11 and put his pajamas back on. He immediately started kicking at his feet... and a lightbulb came on. Was he upset because his feet were covered? As it turns out, yes. I changed his pajamas and he went right to sleep. Up until the diaper change, he had given NO sign that the footies were bothering him.

Messy Baby and Jacob's Ink

This morning I found Jacob with SIX little boxes of Nerds in his pockets (he's not supposed to get anything out of the candy drawer without asking), fake tattoos up both arms (I didn't even know he knew how to put them on!), and later found out that he'd eaten two bananas. That boy...Tuesday, October 6, 2009
If you don't make the pictures any bigger, you won't be able to tell that they're blurry...
Oh, except I guess you know now... Maybe I should have chosen a different title.

Could you say no to this face? It's pretty hard, but I have to do it fairly often. I keep two chairs in front of the bookshelf in my kitchen. Benjamin likes to move the chairs away and start pulling cooking magazines off the shelf. After doing this several times in a row (each time I moved him away, put the chairs back, and said, "No, no, Benjamin"), I finally decided to move Benjamin OUT of the kitchen. He looked up at me, glaring, and said, "No, no" in a very serious voice.
