A Night in the Hospital

(From my journal to Jacob)

On Sunday night, you started coughing like a seal after we put you to bed. Your breathing became more and more labored. It was really scary! We left to take you to the ER at 10:45 p.m. I think we actually got into a room at midnight. You stayed awake the whole time. You had to have an x-ray, physical exam, RSV test, and IV, and several nebulizer treatments. You hated the breathing treatments and fought and screamed and cried. We felt so awful for you.

You were admitted to the hospital with croup and pneumonia (upper right). We got into a room a 4:30 a.m. Once you finally fell asleep, you were out. Even the blood pressure machine didn't wake you up. We got to leave at 8 p.m. Monday night. You've been cranky all week, mainly because you're tired. You've been throwing tantrums.

Today you started saying, "Boehmke" (bah-bee) and "Pumpkin" (puh-poo). You're saying a lot more. You ate dinner with a red spatula tonight.

Daddy's First Haircut by Jake

(From my journal to Jacob)

You can recognize all of the letters in the alphabet, but when you see them all written out and are singing the ABCs, you have to pace it so when you get to "z", you're at the end of the song. You decided the Papa is Papa Lasagna. Hee hee. How cute!

Oh, "pineapple" is "kineapple." You love when we give you an obviously wrong answer. You just laugh and laugh. You love to help cook.

You speak in such clear, long, complicated sentences that everyone thinks you're older than you are.

Your animals are your brothers and sisters. You said you have mostly brothers.

You like to pretend. Today you asked Daddy if he wanted a haircut. You asked him if he wanted to watch a movie and asked which chair he wanted and offered choices. You put on the cape and cut his hair and told him to close his eyes when you went across the front. Then you said, "Okay, all done. Do you want a balloon?"

You're My Noodle

(From my journal to Jacob)

Yesterday morning, you started saying "noodle" at the end of everything. ("I'm climbing up, noodle." "I'm going there, noodle.") You asked me, "Are you my noodle?" I said yes. You said, "You're my noodle." You kept it up throughout the day. At bed time, you said, "I'm your baby noodle." I said yes. You asked if you were Daddy's baby noodle. Daddy said, "You're my baby ravioli." You threw your head back and just howled with laughter. We repeated it several times. Each time, you laughed and laughed. You're still doing it today -- a big, hearty, fake laugh. It cracks me up.

You are singing so much! You like to make up your own songs about everything.

Your Daddy is reading The Giving Tree to you. You just asked if the old man was a dinosaur. Ha ha!

You LOVE Thomas the Tank Engine and Bob the Builder.

You're #1 potty-trained during the day, but you poop in your pants still. :( Gross!

We're Going to Hell

(From my journal to Jacob)

You do a really funny "bunny rabbit nose wiggle" right now. Your face gets really serious and you concentrate so hard!

You said, "Were going to Hell!" the other day. Your dad was like, "What???" You said it again. He was really mad that someone had said that around you. It took a while, but it turns out that you were saying, "We're going down the hill." (The car had been at the time.)

Christmas

(From my journal to Jacob)

You spent the week after Christmas with George Bob and Papa. You had a great time. You went to the zoo, the Museum of Transportation (trains!), and the Botanical Gardens (train display).

You talk non-stop. You talk a lot more than most kids your age and you have been saying things we wouldn't expect you to know for quite a while. You conjugate verbs and use complex sentences. You know which lights mean to go, stop, and be careful. You've told us the correct time a couple of times (weird!). You like to say the wrong thing and then watch our reactions.

Last week at daycare, you made Lego birthday cakes (you love to do that) for Miss Maggie and Miss Kim. Miss Kim blew her candle out and Miss Maggie just ate hers. You went up to Miss Kim, with big eyes, and said, "Miss Maggie ate her candle!" :)

We went to Lowe's over the weekend and we were in the tile section. An employee asked if we needed help finding anything. You yelled, "I just need a screwdriver!" We hadn't been near the screwdrivers or mentioned them. Pretty funny.

You're still terrified of smoke detectors. We're redoing the bathroom and I think somehow it makes you feel unsettled and more afraid.

We were in Logan's about a month ago and the manager asked how we were doing. You yelled, "I'm pooping!" (You were.)

You still like to get the attention of women when we eat out. It almost always works, and you usually pick the most attractive woman around.

Some funny missayings:
"I'm am going to do it."
"I can do it all by me-self."

You were so excited about the Christmas tree. We decorated while you were sleeping, so the next morning you opened the door to that room. I heard you gasp and say, "My Christmas tree!" It was so cute. You loved to just sit in there and look at it. You know not to touch the ornaments but I think you honestly couldn't help yourself.

You told Santa you wanted "lots of presents for me." That's as specific as you got.

Oh, you've been using "also, too, and either" correctly for a long time.

You love Legos and trains. You always have to make a tunnel out of the Legos and then destroy them.

You don't like: ranch dressing, peanut butter, tomatoes, or juice. You do like: hot dogs, cheese, oatmeal, oranges, apples, grapes, and balsamic vinaigrette.

You are overall still very good for your age, but you definitely have your share of temper tantrums and naughty times.

You also have lots of times of just wanting to cuddle and being so sweet and affectionate.

The other day I hugged you and you said, "Don't touch me!" I said, "Jakey, that makes me sad." You gave me a quick hug and then repeated, "Don't touch me."

You have this funny little tune that you sing "nah nah nah" and you usually do it with your little happy skipping (one arm and leg in front) and cocking your head.

You sing a lot of songs on "la" or other filler sounds if you don't know the words.

You love to sing and know quite a few songs.

You finally stopped picking at your face (from July!!!) the week you stayed with George Bob and Papa after Christmas.

We got rid of the pacifier around December 15th or so. We wrapped them up and you gave them to the baby next door (your "new ones," as you called them).

You wear a size 9 shoe (there's some extra room). 24/2T pants are still a little big in the waist, but are too short.
