A Night in the Hospital

(From my journal to Jacob)

On Sunday night, you started coughing like a seal after we put you to bed. Your breathing became more and more labored. It was really scary! We left to take you to the ER at 10:45 p.m. I think we actually got into a room at midnight. You stayed awake the whole time. You had to have an x-ray, physical exam, RSV test, and IV, and several nebulizer treatments. You hated the breathing treatments and fought and screamed and cried. We felt so awful for you.

You were admitted to the hospital with croup and pneumonia (upper right). We got into a room a 4:30 a.m. Once you finally fell asleep, you were out. Even the blood pressure machine didn't wake you up. We got to leave at 8 p.m. Monday night. You've been cranky all week, mainly because you're tired. You've been throwing tantrums.

Today you started saying, "Boehmke" (bah-bee) and "Pumpkin" (puh-poo). You're saying a lot more. You ate dinner with a red spatula tonight.

Daddy's First Haircut by Jake

(From my journal to Jacob)

You can recognize all of the letters in the alphabet, but when you see them all written out and are singing the ABCs, you have to pace it so when you get to "z", you're at the end of the song. You decided the Papa is Papa Lasagna. Hee hee. How cute!

Oh, "pineapple" is "kineapple." You love when we give you an obviously wrong answer. You just laugh and laugh. You love to help cook.

You speak in such clear, long, complicated sentences that everyone thinks you're older than you are.

Your animals are your brothers and sisters. You said you have mostly brothers.

You like to pretend. Today you asked Daddy if he wanted a haircut. You asked him if he wanted to watch a movie and asked which chair he wanted and offered choices. You put on the cape and cut his hair and told him to close his eyes when you went across the front. Then you said, "Okay, all done. Do you want a balloon?"
